Aurora Sustainability

Aurora Sustainability, Sustainability

Aurora is a carbon footprint startup. We designed and built its Webflow site, designed its app, and hundreds of thousands of quizzes have been completed.

We loved designing and building out the Aurora site and designing the app. Aurora was a 2020 Noonies nominee for Best Use of Tech For Good.

The site features a geolocation system that directs users to region-specific pages and also hides and shows content based on location.

Tracking, reporting and live chat

The Aurora project also combined custom tracking and reporting as well as user behaviour tracking using Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, Google BigQuery, Supermetrics, Google Data Studio, Microsoft Clarity, and Hotjar, as well as Intercom integration for live chat and support.

Take the quiz

We really loved working on this site and would love for you to take the quiz, find out your Aurora score and do a bit to help save the planet. At the time of writing, hundreds of thousands of quizzes have been completed.

The challenge

Using technology to get people thinking about the environment is a good story, and that is what we were after with Aurora Sustainability: a platform that gets people to understand their carbon footprint and then cut it down.

Aurora Sustainability is a tech-savvy startup that makes working out your carbon footprint simple. Through its own tools it helps people gauge their carbon emissions, and it also gives recommendations and green investment opportunities to reduce them. Our job was to turn that worthwhile goal into a website that speaks to people who care about the environment.

Our approach

We wanted the site to do more than look good. It had to be a place where visitors could learn about their carbon emissions and also find practical ways to offset them. The geolocation system built into the site is a good example of this. It sends users to region-specific pages, so the information they see is relevant and something they can act on.

The quiz and the Aurora Score

The quiz was the heart of this project. It is where users find their Aurora Score, a number that reflects their environmental impact. We designed this interactive tool to keep people engaged, get them thinking and nudge them towards a greener lifestyle.

The Aurora blog

The blog is another way Aurora Sustainability gets its educational message out. It digs into all sorts of environmental topics and builds a community of informed and responsible people.

Analytics and live chat

The project had plenty of technical bits too. We set up custom tracking and reporting, and looked at user behaviour with a suite of analytics tools: Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, Google BigQuery, Supermetrics, Google Data Studio, Microsoft Clarity and Hotjar. It was a mix of environmental advocacy and technical work.

On top of that, live chat and support through Intercom adds real-time engagement, so visitors have a channel for questions and support.

Results

The Aurora Sustainability project was a fulfilling one. It was about shaping a digital platform that is not just good looking but also works well and teaches people something. In the end we built more than a website: a hub for environmental awareness and action.

We believe the success of this project shows in the hundreds of thousands of quizzes completed, each one a person taking a step towards a greener tomorrow.

Aurora also has a sister project, Aurora for Organisations, which helps companies and cities measure and improve their sustainability. We have also written about 6 ways to create more sustainable websites, and if you want a Webflow site built with this much care, take a look at our Webflow design and build services.
